OPEN CALL: Návrh muralu pro prostějovskou tržnici

Kontext a téma

Mural je dočasný zásah v jižní části centra Prostějova.
Motiv má vycházet z vrstevnaté identity lokality:

Budova stojí v prostoru bývalého prostějovského ghetta, historicky spjatého s výraznou židovskou komunitou. Ta patřila k nejpočetnějším v rámci České republiky, díky čemuž se městu přezdívá „Hanácký Jeruzalém“.

Nedaleko odtud se narodil Edmund Husserl, zakladatel moderní fenomenologie, jehož myšlenkový odkaz může posloužit jako filozofické východisko pro tvůrčí interpretaci místa či vnímání prostoru a reality.

V bezprostředním okolí se nachází bývalý augustiniánský klášter a gotický kostel Povýšení sv. Křížes dochovanými fragmenty křížové chodby, které dodávají lokalitě historickou a duchovní hloubku. Právě této stavbě by neměl návrh vytvářet konkurenci, ale měl by ji respektovat.

Tržnice: živé každodenní trhy s pestrou dynamikou.
Budova je v budoucnu určena k demolici – mural je dočasné, ale významné obohacení prostoru.

OPEN CALL: Mural Design for the Prostějov Market Hall

Who: artists and collectives experienced in large-scale public murals
Goal: impactful, concept-driven artwork reflecting the history, identity and atmosphere of the site

Context & Theme

The mural is a temporary artistic intervention in the southern part of Prostějov’s centre.
The design should respond to the layered identity of the area:

The mural’s concept should be based on the character and layered history of the location, without requiring — or even aiming for — a literal depiction of specific local elements.
The building stands on the site of the former Prostějov ghetto, historically connected to a significant Jewish community. It was one of the largest in the Czech Republic, which is why the town is sometimes called the “Haná Jerusalem.”
Not far from here was born Edmund Husserl, the founder of modern phenomenology, whose intellectual legacy may serve as a philosophical starting point for the creative interpretation of the place or for exploring the perception of space and reality.
In the immediate vicinity stands a former Augustinian monastery and the Gothic Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, with preserved fragments of its cloister, which give the site historical and spiritual depth. The mural design should not compete with this building but should respect it.

The market hosts lively open-air markets several times a week.
The building is planned for demolition – the mural is a temporary yet meaningful addition.
